In the Dark of the Night

Gerrit goes to bed quiet easily for us. He usually plays with a few toys in bed and then cleans everything up when he's tired. There are times we here the pitter patter of feet and wonder what he is doing, but don't bother to check on him.

One night this is what we found:

When we asked him about it he said he was packing for a trip for after Julie's (daycare). Not only did he have his sleeping bag in the little bag it comes with, but in the outside pockets he had his 'mail' (junk mail he likes to open and think they are important papers for him) as well as a few dollars and old insurance cards (again, he thinks are important). He hunted down his bike and set it next to the sleeping bag.

When I went to bed, I found this in the bathtub:

He found the pool bag that I had put away in the closet...no, he did not get to play with the shooters or flippers in the tub!

I'm Lovin' It!

Bath time is so much more enjoyable for all! I actually look forward to it and make sure Emmit has a decent amout of time to play.

Mama's Cupcake

Trying to capture a few shots of Emmit wearing the hats that I made him (not the hand me downs from Gerrit). I know I can only put cupcake hats and ones with hearts and mom written on them for a short time. I'll enjoy it while I can!

"Love Me"

Saturday night we were visiting friends when one of them made the comment that Gerrit had the Justin Bieber look going. I knew who Justin is but looked him up to compare hair styles. With a little combing to the side, Gerrit looks pretty similar! So I was cruel and took a few pictures. Gerrit was not very cooperative with having his hair in his eyes.

Luckily this look won't last, he has a hair cut on Thursday!

{Love Me is one of Justin's songs...just ask any 10-15 yr old and they can probably tell you all about him!}

Happy Valentine's Day!

Adam worked late so I 'celebrated' Valentines day with the boys. Gerrit (and Emmit) took Valentines (above - right) to daycare and received lots of Valentines in return. Gerrit decorated Emmit's bag because he was too little and I enjoyed some of Emmit's treats.

The boys did not have special V-day shirts this year but I made them matching hats which make me laugh.

Emmit got a new ball (surprised?) and Gerrit got a new car (he had to get one if he was going to give them to his friends) and some cool Toy Story tub stuff. My plan was for Emmit to get a ball of his own; one that Gerrit would not use and then Gerrit wouldn't get mad at Emmit for playing with his ball. Of course, it was a good idea in theory. Gerrit dominated playing with Emmit's ball and Emmit didn't get to play with it much. This led to Gerrit not getting to play with his new tub toys... The joys of being by myself tonight!

It is fun to see Gerrit start to understand special days and I'll take advantage of dressing the boys in what I want for special days as long as I can!

Gerritisms...

Tonight Gerrit opened his Valentine card from grandma Marcy and GG. He found the money right away and said:
"good, I don't have to take daddy's money anymore. I have my own."

We are watching TV and because college basketball is not on (and I don't want to watch a kid show), we are watching college hockey. We had a discussion about who was playing and what color each team was wearing and Gerrit asked:
"Do I have a hockey jersey?"
I replied: Yes, its just really big on you, its a Gopher one.
Of course, I had to go get it. He is not wearing it right now because he is playing his basketball game so he has his Cougar jersey on. He said hockey is after basketball.

As he is shooting hoops, he stopped and asked if he had a wresting jersey.
Luckily he does NOT!

*Emmit is on night 1 without the pacifier. He is due for a new one (they only last 4 weeks and then begin to break down) and because they are expensive, it is time to break him of the habit. Plus, he's old enough to find something else to comfort him!

Send This to Izzo

We pulled out the video camera last night. I taped a bit of Gerrit playing basketball and then he wanted to watch it. We realized just how little we had been using the camera when we saw how old some of the footage is! I made a little video of Gerrit playing ball and added some old footage (just about all that was on the camera was Gerrit playing ball!). Enjoy! (I know I need to slow down the words, I forgot how to do that.)

(At least my last staff development day did not go to waste!) Now that I know what to do, you might see more videos (don't hold your breath though!).

Milestone

This cutie patootie:

finally likes the bath!

What...you thought I'd write he was walking - nope. Won't take more than 2 steps and then resorts to crawling.

This was the first night Emmit did not scream/cry/fight...you name it when it was bath time. Not even when I washed his hair! This makes tubby time enjoyable again!

Here We Go Cougars, Here We Go!

Gerrit received a special present yesterday at church: a bag full of Cougar jerseys!
A family from church has 2 boys who cleaned out their bedrooms and saved these jerseys for Gerrit. They know how much of a sports nut he is (and his parents) and thought they'd be perfect for him as they were too small for the boys and yet too good to throw out. They found a perfect home. Now if only they actually fit him!
He spent most of the day switching jerseys and playing hoops. I had to tuck the jersey in or else he'd trip (it fell to his ankle). My camera was on the fritz when I took these pictures, but you can see how much he loves the jerseys and how funny he looks in them. He has his choice of colors too: blue, white, grey...the practice jersey actually fits him the best (bottom right).

We are not sure if these jerseys were given to the family 'legally' so right now he can only wear them at home. I'm sure he will want to wear one to the next Cougar bball game; we are waiting to hear if he can wear them in public. If not, no big deal, he loves wearing them at home when he plays basketball.

Gerrit went to the game Friday night with Adam and Sunday at church he saw a Varsity player and said: hey, that's Cody! Adam was impressed how he remembered players and recognized them when they were not in uniform.

Big Helper

I had my first night away from Emmit last night. No, it was not for a great vacation getaway - it was due to conferences. I did not want to drive home after conferences so I stayed with my friend Sue and Adam played Mr. Mom for the night. Gerrit was a big helper for dad. As much as Gerrit can throw a fit and be a pain (be a typical 3 yr old), he can really step it up and help us out!
I called Adam this morning to see how the night went and getting them ready this morning and he said it went well. Adam told me this little story:

Adam asked Gerrit to watch Emmit while he started to car.
When he came back in the house, he asked Gerrit where Emmit was and Gerrit replied:
going up the stairs.

Adam asked him why he wasn't watching him and Gerrit replied:
I am dad, I watching him go up the stairs!
